I Want to Change the World

Paul and Em ZIONS 2005

Paul Em and Elizabeth ZIONS 2008

So here's my deal: In the spring, summer, and fall I WANT TO CHANGE THE WORLD!!!! and I feel like I can. I want to climb a mountain, enjoy the view; run through the fields, then lay down in the dirt and hug a tree. On some level I think we all feel like this sometimes. It's the great motivation that excites us and get our adrenaline pumping. It's when we feel like our lives are limitless and our abilities super-human. Why don't we feel like this all the time?!?! It's pretty annoying- especially to me, especially in the winter. I get soooo stir crazy! In the winter I want to sit with a hot beverage and contemplate my life... I think this is what they call "balance".

Every year life changes us in so many ways. Some moments get soooo wonderful, and some are such a bummer. Luckily God gives us strength to function through both.

Man, I think of the weirdest stuff sometimes!! GO ME!!

A Crazy Day Inside and Out!!!!

While Elizabeth put away the dishes...... Daddy took care of the snow!!!!

We got 16inches of fresh snow on the driveway! The snow on the back deck is level with the bay window!!! It is unbelieveable!

Good thing Elizabeth had some place to go to stay out of the cold.....

Wu Wei

One of Taoism’s most important concepts is wu wei, which is sometimes translated as “non-doing” or “non-action.” A better way to think of it, however, is as a paradoxical “Action of non-action.” Wu wei refers to the cultivation of a state of being in which our actions are quite effortlessly in alignment with the ebb and flow of the elemental cycles of the natural world. It is a kind of “going with the flow” that is characterized by great ease and awake-ness, in which - without even trying - we’re able to respond perfectly to whatever situations arise.

I really think this concept is worth thinking about. I wrote it with eyeliner on my rear view mirror about four years ago. Now it won't wash off.... makes sense....

Just something to think about!

THIS YEAR I RESOLVE....

I had a very meaningful epiphany this morning. I realized that the people I know who are truly happy, don't have anything more than I do. Their lives aren't any more meaningful or fuller, their husbands aren't any more romantic or helpful around the house, their homes aren't any cleaner or bigger, they have no more friends, or greater material wealth... you are getting the idea. The difference is: Perspective! They choose to view their lives in the most positive light, to embrace their current situation with energy and a willingness to be where they are. This is of course not a new idea... I didn't think it up... but that makes it no less meaningful for me now. The fact is that we must all stop cursing...and I mean really CURSING the things in life we cannot change. After some serious thinking I realized ANYTHING can be put in a positive light and really shine!

So this year instead of going on a diet... or reading a 100books.... I resolve to view my life and situation in the best light (that means no four letter words :) and enjoy what this year will give me.
